About Nutritional Therapy
What is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner?
A Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) is a professional certified by the Nutritional Therapy Association, Inc. The goal of a FNTP is to identify nutritional deficiencies, target any systemic dysfunction and replenish nutrients in the body to restore your health to achieve optimal wellness.
Nutritional Therapy is always tailored to each individual’s needs, lifestyle, activity level, stress level, ancestry, etc. When it comes to nutrition and health, there is never a one size fits all approach that is best for everyone. We are all unique bio-individuals and what works best for you may not work for someone else.
A Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner is not trained to provide medical diagnoses, prescriptions, or treatment of any medical or pathological conditions, illnesses, disease, or injuries. No recommended or comment by an FNTP should be interpreted as medical advice or a diagnosis.

What Are The 6 Foundations Of Nutritional Therapy?
- DIGESTION: Eating a nutrient-dense diet is essential, but you must actually absorb the nutrients you eat to benefit from them.
- BLOOD SUGAR REGULATION: Stable blood sugar levels provide consistent energy, enable metabolic flexibility, and reduce stress on the body.
- FATTY ACID BALANCE: Healthy fats are required for stable energy, optimal brain function, hormone balance, and satiety.
- NUTRITION: A diet rich in nutrient-dense, properly prepared, whole foods is the ultimate foundation of optimal health.
- MINERAL BALANCE: Minerals help build bones and lend a helping hand in balancing hormones and many other key body processes.
- HYDRATION: Water is the most important nutrient. It’s required for numerous body processes and makes up about 60% of the body.
How It Works
Contact Me:
Please submit your application for the program, you will receive a response within one week. The 1st step is a free 20 minute discovery call with Melissa. We can discuss your health goals and concerns and to confirm you are a good fit for the program.
Before We Meet:
Once we have scheduled your initial consultation, I will send you a initial interview form, 3 day food journal, a Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire (NAQ) and client contract. Please return forms at least 3 days before your appointment date to allow time for complete study of your case. This ensures you get the best value from your consultation.
Initial Consultation:
First-time clients begin with a 60 minute initial consultation. This is a very detailed appointment and will consist of going over your background, lifestyle and food habits. Any body system imbalances and weaknesses will be addressed through personalized nutrition, supplementation and lifestyle changes.
Health Plan Review:
We will meet one week later for 60 minutes, after the initial consultation. I will provide you a personalized health plan including nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. Nutrients are best derived from food so supplementation will be recommended according to your needs.
Scheduled Follow Ups:
Follow-up visits are scheduled every 2 weeks for the duration of the program and are 45 minutes in length. The program duration is 12 weeks and is 100% virtual.
